Chianti DOCG

Rules require that there is at least 70% Sangiovese grapes in every. Some Chiantis are 100% Sangiovese while others can be blended with up to 30% other approved grapes, including white wine grapes! Chianti is bright and ruby red turning garnet as it ages, and has a dry, fruity, lightly tannic flavor. There are tastes of black and red cherry and can have accents of violets, herbs and spices.

The Chianti grape growing area covers Arezzo, Florence, Pisa, Pistoia, Prato and Siena.

San Giovese

Sangiovese is a red wine grape from Tuscany. It is the grape that is used to make Chianti, Brunello di Montalcino and others. Sangiovese is usually lightly colored with high acidity, light bodied and depending on the vineyard, moderate to high tannins. The most notable characteristics are cherry and violets.

Artimino

Home of da Delfina restaurant, one of the best restaurants I have enjoyed in Tuscany. Perched on the edge of rolling vineyards in the Carmagnola region and looking across the valley to one of the Medici’s hunting lodges Villa la Ferdinanda, affectionately called the villa dei cento cammini or villa with 100 chimneys. It was build in 1596 and is operated today as a hotel, with 100 chimneys.
